Matthew 15:1–9
Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, / “Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash their hands before they eat.” / Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?

But Jesus knew their evil intent and said, “You hypocrites, why are you testing Me?

Later, they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to catch Jesus in His words. / “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are honest and seek favor from no one. Indeed, You are impartial and teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay them or not?”
John 8:4–9
and said, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. / In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such a woman. So what do You say?” / They said this to test Him, in order to have a basis for accusing Him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with His finger.
